Claude Dispatch: Send Tasks to Your Mac from Mobile with Autonomous AI (2026)
When Your Phone Becomes the Boss of Your Computer
Imagine this scenario: you're on the bus heading to work. You remember you need to organize all Q1 client contracts, rename 200 files according to a new convention, and generate a summary of each one. Hours of work.
You open Claude on your phone, type the instruction in plain language, and send it. By the time you arrive at the office, your Mac has it done.
That's exactly Claude Dispatch.
If you haven't yet read the article where we explain the full ecosystem, start with Claude Channels and Remote Tasks.
What Is Claude Dispatch and How Is It Different from Remote Control?
There are three related Anthropic technologies that are easy to confuse:
| Technology | Who initiates | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Remote Control | You, from mobile | You supervise a session already running |
| Claude Channels | External events | Claude reacts autonomously to messages or events |
| Claude Dispatch | You, from mobile | You send a new task to the computer for autonomous execution |
Dispatch is the most ambitious: you're not supervising an ongoing task — you're launching one from scratch with a plain-language instruction, and Claude executes it completely autonomously on your Mac, in a local sandbox environment.
Safety First: Human-in-the-Loop Controls
This is Dispatch's most important feature and what sets it apart from other automation solutions.
Anthropic is fully aware that giving an AI agent autonomous access to execute tasks on your personal computer is a significant step. That's why Dispatch incorporates strict Human-in-the-Loop controls:
Push Notifications Before Destructive Actions
When Claude is about to perform an irreversible action — deleting files, modifying system records, running a script affecting multiple folders — the agent stops automatically and sends a push notification to your phone.
You receive a confirmation screen with:
- A clear description of what it's about to do
- The files or resources that will be affected
- Approve and Reject buttons
The agent doesn't continue until you decide.
Local Execution Sandbox
Dispatch tasks run in a sandbox environment on your Mac. This means the agent operates within boundaries you've configured: permitted directories, accessible applications, authorized commands.
You don't need to worry about Claude touching system files it shouldn't.
How to Configure Claude Dispatch
Prerequisites
- Mac with Claude Code v2.1.80 or later installed
- Official Claude app on your iPhone or Android
- Authenticated session with the same account on both devices
- Active subscription (Pro, Team, or Enterprise)
Step 1: Enable Dispatch in Claude Code
Dispatch is activated from Claude Code settings on your Mac. Open Claude Code and run:
claude config dispatch --enable
This registers your session as a Dispatch task receiver and establishes the secure channel with Anthropic's API.
Step 2: Configure the Sandbox (Optional but Recommended)
Define which directories the agent can access:
claude config dispatch --allowed-dirs ~/Documents ~/Projects ~/Downloads
You can be as specific as you need. If you configure nothing, Dispatch operates in the home directory by default.
Step 3: Send Your First Task from Mobile
Open the Claude app on your phone → go to the Dispatch section → write your instruction in plain language → send.
Examples of instructions that work well:
- "Organize the PDFs in the Downloads folder by date and move them into monthly folders"
- "Find all .log files from the past week and generate a summary of the errors"
- "Rename all images in the Clients folder by adding the prefix 2026_Q1_"
Step 4: Manage Approvals
If the task requires actions that need confirmation, you'll receive push notifications. Approve or reject from your phone. If everything looks good, the work happens on its own.
Use Cases Where Dispatch Makes a Real Difference
For Freelancers and Consultants
The administrative work that eats your time: renaming files, organizing project folders, generating time reports, consolidating documents. All of that can be delegated to Dispatch while you're in meetings or commuting.
For Marketing and Content Teams
Processing batches of images, resizing and renaming assets, consolidating analytics reports, moving files between project folders. Mechanical tasks that consume valuable time.
For Small Businesses
File and document management is an invisible but real burden in any business. Dispatch turns that burden into something that simply happens while you're focused on other things.
For Developers
Launch build processes, maintenance scripts, or log analysis from your phone. Receive the result notification without ever opening the terminal.
What Dispatch Can't Do (Yet)
Like any new technology, Dispatch has limitations in this version:
- Currently optimized for Mac (Windows support in development)
- Very complex tasks requiring multiple context cycles may need intervention
- Operations requiring interactive authentication (like logging into third-party services) require your presence
Dispatch Within the Broader Ecosystem
Dispatch is more powerful when combined with the rest of Anthropic's ecosystem:
- Scheduled Tasks → Automatic Dispatch on a programmed schedule
- Claude Channels → Receive the task result in your Telegram or Discord
- Remote Cloud Sessions → Long-running tasks that don't require your Mac to be on
Together, they build an agent that works continuously, autonomously, and with supervision tailored to you.
Ready to Automate Your Workflow with Dispatch?
Dispatch may sound simple in theory, but designing the right automation flows for your business — with the right permissions, necessary integrations, and human checkpoints in the right places — is where the difference between a useful implementation and a problematic one becomes clear.
I help businesses and professionals implement these solutions in ways that genuinely save time and generate value, not create new problems.
